Work Hard / Play Hard

It’s no doubt we’re all busy with our day-to-day work and life activities, but it’s also important to make time for fun.

Over the past few months, one of my mentors, Dr. Nick Holt, has initiated a monthly mandatory group-based fun hour. Since then we’ve engaged in life-size Jenga, rock climbing at the University of Alberta PAW Centre, and recently – bowling! Personally, I believe this time has facilitated team growth, and research (e.g., Fluegge et al., 2008) has suggested that short leisure breaks may increase worker productivity and satisfaction and reduce stress…a win-win!
