The S.A.F.E. Approach

safeThe Institute of Human Development, Child and Youth Health at CIHR (the Canadian Institutes of Health Research) hosts a yearly video competition.

This year, colleagues from the KidFit Health and Wellness Clinic and Institute for Better Health in Mississauga, Ontario submitted their video on how to reduce the burden of childhood obesity.

Their video, which was one of winners, packs a meaningful message into three-minutes, and advocates for a S.A.F.E. approach for kids:

S – sleep 8 to 11 hours/night

A – activity – increase it

F – family meal time, forget soft drinks

E – emotions are important; recognize anxiety and depression and get kids help
